Gunsmith Guide

Gunsmith is the reason Future Soldier still has a wiki audience. You are not picking a gun from a list; you are picking a receiver and then arguing with barrels, gas systems, triggers, magazines, optics, underbarrels, muzzles, stocks, and paint. Two players can carry an “ACR” that behave like different weapons. This page is the rules of that bench. For ranked picks, use the weapon tier list. For mission-by-mission kits, use the loadout planner.

Unlocks come from campaign challenges and multiplayer progression. Silent mission scores matter. If you blast every map on Recruit, you will stare at empty attachment slots on Elite.

How Gunsmith is laid out

Open Gunsmith from the main hub between missions. Select a weapon family, then a slot. Optics change zoom and ADS. Barrels change velocity, length, and how much the gun fights you in CQC. Magazines change capacity and reload. Triggers change how the shot breaks — useful on semi-auto MK14s and DMRs. Underbarrels add grips, lights, or launchers. Muzzles are where suppressors live. Stocks change sprint-to-fire and shouldering. Paint is ego; put it last.

A stealth rifle wants: suppressor, low-zoom optic (red dot or 1-4x), a magazine you can reload in cover, and a barrel that does not turn the gun into a pike in hallways. A loud rifle wants: compensator, mid optic, bigger mag, and a grip if recoil is the reason you miss second shots.

Do not stack every recoil part on a Vector you will only fire in bursts inside a hut. Do not put an 8x on a PDW. The 8x sniper optic is a challenge unlock for a reason; it belongs on an MSR or a patient MK14, not on the gun you clear Deep Fire with.

Receivers worth building first

Stealth primary: a 5.56 assault rifle or a PDW with a suppressor. ACR-style rifles are easy to make quiet and accurate. MP7 or P90-class PDWs shine in Silent Talon interiors if you accept the range cut.

Mid-range: MK14 or SCAR-H. Semi or burst discipline. Match trigger if you have it. This is the Subtle Arrow and Gallant Thief gun.

Panic / Guerrilla: Vector, shotgun, or LMG depending on the challenge. LMGs eat ammo and take forever to ADS; they are for Valiant Hammer and wave holds, not for cloaked peeks.

Sniper: MSR or M110. Leave it on your back until a Warhound, a tower, or Shattered Mountain sightlines. Running a sniper as a primary in Bolivia is how you die to a flanking SMG.

Pistols are not a joke in Raven Strike. Cold Walker and Argent Thunder run pistol challenges. Build a suppressed 5.7 or equivalent with a red dot and treat it like a tiny rifle.

Attachment mistakes

The first mistake is a suppressor on every gun including the one you use after stealth is dead. Swap muzzles in the pause if the mission allows, or carry a second primary personality. The second mistake is a laser that you leave on during camo peeks; if the part is visible, turn it off. The third is a drum mag that makes reloads cinematic while you stand in a doorway.

Gas systems and heavy barrels help long-range rifles and hurt CQC. If a mission is Deep Fire, strip length. If a mission is Subtle Arrow tarmac, keep velocity.

Paint and camouflage patterns do not change stats. Optical camouflage is a suit system, not a gun skin. See optical camouflage.

Challenges, Uplay leftovers, and 2026

Some LMGs and cosmetics were Uplay rewards. Those shops are gone. Community save workarounds exist for people who already earned the content; they are not cheats for skipping Gunsmith. The updates hub and links point to PCGamingWiki and Steam guides that restore Deluxe maps and old rewards on a legitimate install.

Multiplayer classes — Rifleman, Engineer, Scout — each lock parts of the Gunsmith tree until you level that class. Do not assume your campaign MK14 is legal on a Scout. Check the class before you queue Guerrilla after the 2026 online setup.

When a build feels wrong, change one variable: optic, then muzzle, then barrel. Players who change five parts at once never learn what actually kicked. Then take the gun into Nimble Guardian’s shooting-gallery courtyards or a Guerrilla hold and only then copy a YouTuber’s screenshot.

Ubisoft’s own Gunsmith trailer (embedded above) still sells the fantasy correctly: you are supposed to obsess. Just obsess in the direction of the next mission, not in the direction of a loadout that only looks good in the menu.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Ghost Soldier questions.

How do I unlock more attachments?

Complete campaign weapon and tactical challenges, raise mission scores, and level multiplayer classes. Silent play unlocks more than loud Recruit runs.

Should every gun have a suppressor?

Your stealth primary should. Your backup and Guerrilla LMG usually should not. Build both instead of one compromised rifle.

Does paint change stats?

No. Paint is cosmetic. Optical camouflage is a separate suit gadget.

Where should I take a finished build?

Into the campaign walkthrough or the loadout planner to match it to a mission type.
